Niagara Women's Enterprise Centre (NWEC)

Who We Are

Niagara Women's Enterprise Centre (NWEC) is a Charity of Niagara Peninsula Homes Community Resource Centre. NWEC has provided self-employment and employment supports and services to over 750 women across Niagara. NWEC is governed by an elected Board of Directors and takes pride in offering continued program improvements and encouraging a variety of community partnerships.

Our Mandate

NWEC’s Mandate is to relieve poverty by providing assistance, training and resources to unemployed and underemployed women wanting to obtain employment or create a business in the Niagara Region. This assistance is offered through establishing and providing specialized sector-specific certificate training programs and employment supports for women who have found it difficult to obtain employment.

Our History

In 2007 NWEC was chosen as one of a few groups in Ontario for a pilot project to assist women who are victims of domestic abuse to gain technical skills. This program was renewed in 2009 and again 2011 to deliver two years of skills based training in Office Administration with Niagara College, Gillian's Place, Women's Place of South Niagara and Design for a New Tomorrow are partners to this program providing transitional support and personal counseling.

NWEC is governed by an elected Board of Directors and takes pride in offering continued program improvements and encouraging a variety of community partnerships.

NWEC’s Executive Director, Betty Ann Baker, has achieved numerous awards in acknowledgment of her community development efforts and achievements. She has been awarded Chatelaine Magazine Woman of the Year and Niagara Business Woman of the Year

NWEC currently employs three full time staff, two part time staff and one full time contract staff
